Frequently Asked Questions

faq

We want to anticipate some of the questions you may have regarding our ministry, our vision for the future, and any other details we can think of. Of course, feel free to ask us any questions we may have missed!

ARE YOU STILL IN HAWAII?

There are seven major islands in the Hawaiian Island chain. We previously lived on the island of Oahu – this is the most populated island (950,000 people), which contains the capital city of Honolulu and the famous “Pear Harbor” and “Waikiki”. This is also the island my (Abigail’s) parents live on. There are  five YWAM bases within the Hawaiian Islands. We completed our School of Biblical Studies and will now be moving to the more remote island of Kauai. Kauai is known as the “garden island” because it receives the most rain out of all the islands. The YWAM base in Kauai is much smaller then Oahu and the island is much less populated (66,000 people).

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING IN KAUAI?

kauai-map3YWAM Kauai has invited us to join their ministry and pioneer a Chronological Bible Core Course on Kauai. Our goal is to run the 1st school in April, 2017 with the outreach phase directed toward the Middle East and Asia. Our role as directors will include:

  • Planning school curriculum
  • Preparing and teaching class lectures
  • Staff and student discipleship/mentorship
  • Coordinating and scheduling guest speakers
  • Organizing and leading international outreaches
  • Future school structure and development

Outside of this, we will also plug in with YWAM Kauai’s local ministry and outreaches. This includes working with a teen mentorship program, a community garden, partnering with a women’s shelter and a local homeless ministry. We also hope to begin offering a weekly inductive Bible study class for the community.

WHAT IS THE CHRONOLOGICAL BIBLE CORE COURSE?

photo-4In short, the CBCC is a condensed version of the school that we just completed, the 9-month, school of biblical studies. The CBCC is a three month course where students will discover, in chronological order, the story of God’s love for His people. Students will study 14 crucial, representative books of the Bible, and read all 66 books in context. They will learn how to teach and transform nations by going on local outreaches and will have the option to go on an international outreach at the end of their school.

WHAT IS YOUR LONG-TERM VISION?

Our main hope in pioneering a CBCC in Kauai is to bring Western resources, training, and tools to our brothers and sisters in hard-to-reach nations. We are incredibly blessed to live in a free nation with abundant English resources to aid in our Biblical Studies. However, we are aware that this opportunity is not offered to all Christians. Through the CBCC we will be able to take trained teams into these nations and equip the local body of believers to study the word of God for themselves. We will be able to rain up the body of believers in unreached areas to reach their own peoples through accurate biblical knowledge and a new depth of scriptural literacy.

ARE YOU PAID THROUGH YWAM OR DO YOU RELY ON FUNDRAISING?

Youth With a Mission is a volunteer movement, meaning no single member within the organization receives a salary. This has enabled rapid growth and requires that all staff members and ministries partner closely with otter believers and church bodies to fund their work.

As full-time YWAM Kauai staff we need $2,500 in monthly support. This will help cover our living expenses as well as other ministry expenses locally and globally.

Please visit our Support Us page for more information on how you can become a part of our financial partnership team.

I CAN’T GIVE FINANCIALLY RIGHT NOW, HOW ELSE CAN I SUPPORT YOU?

Even if you are unable to give financially, there are still many ways that you can support and encourage us as a couple and in our ministry. Here are some ideas:

  1. Pray for us. We rely on a network of intercessors that cover, not only our ministry, but our marriage, health and wellbeing in prayer.
  2. Read and share our blog. We love sharing our stories and experiences with you. If something we have written or posted moves you, please share it with others.
  3. Keep in touch. We LOVE hearing from our friends and family. Let us know how we can pray for you. Shoot us an e-mail or comment on our blog (we love hearing your thoughts). Even though we are far away from so many people we love, we can still keep in touch.
