The theme verse for our 2013 Heart of Rescue Gala (and YWAM Houston as a whole) is Proverbs 24:11, which says “Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering towards slaughter.” I like to include verse twelve, which adds, “If you say, ‘But we knew nothing about this,’ does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay everyone according to what they have done?” We believe that it is our job as the church to stand in the gap for those who do not know Christ, to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves and to serve as a buffer for the innocent and oppressed.
This year was our tenth annual Gala, where we highlight what God has done in our ministries during the year. Throughout the program we had four brave guests sharing their unique testimonies with the audience. It was exciting to see what God is doing in their lives and the small part we were able to play in much bigger stories.
Every year we ask that our Rescue Families attend the event with the foster/adopted children in their home. One family will always share their testimony, followed by each of our Rescue Families walking across the stage and introducing their children. Last year I remember it being a very moving time. This year was even more touching, as I knew many of the faces from my year with the ministry. As I saw the faces of these foster and adopted children, I thought about their stories… their past. This year I knew where many of them were coming from and was truly able to see them as “rescued children”. I thought of how many times our Rescue Families have called them “God’s kids” because of the way they are always provided for, sometimes miraculously.
We had around 750 guests and raised more funds then any other year. God covered the event from start to finish! As it is put on by a very small group of people, it is a miracle that the event was pulled off so smoothly. God is good. Between the raffle, silent auction set-up, registration, child-care, video testimonies, literature and powerpoint slides David and I have been more then busy in the past few weeks preparing for the Gala along with our normal tasks.
Thank you for continuing to cover us in your prayers during this busy time. We are so grateful to have friends and family encouraging us and lifting us up in prayer. We need you!
