We made it to the Lone Star State, and hit the ground running.
Our first day back was debriefing-day for a large youth group from Wisconsin. As they debriefed, we heard how Houston had impacted them. One woman said that she was bringing home a desire to start similar ministries in her own community. “So often we just don’t know where to begin.” She said, “When in reality, we just need to get out there and start building relationships and see where God leads.” Another girl said that the trip had given her a biblical perspective on the problems she faced at home.
Twenty-two Arkansans (that’s ar-KAN-sans) rolled in that same day. For many of them, this was their first exposure to missions work of any kind. On Monday, David and I led half them through downtown Houston on a prayer walk. Because of the rain, we each carried an umbrella, making quite a colorful parade. We intentionally focused our prayer on The Seven Sphere’s of Influence: Government, Media, Arts and Entertainment, Family, Business, Education and Religion.
With a team in town, our Directors leaving the country for a week, and our yearly Gala Auction rapidly approaching, David and I finished our first week tired, yet excited. I found encouragement from Isaiah 58:
6 “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe them,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
and your healing will quickly appear…
9 Then you will call, and the LORD will answer;
you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.
Thank you all so much for your love and support!
